However, would this, all
the fame that celebrities are receiving, be considered as a good thing, or a
bad thing? It feels like in this modern society, music is a key to making
money; music is like business! Advertisements are becoming very effective
throughout music! Please take a look at this music video by Eminem & Dr.
Dre, I need a Doctor. Notice how many advertisements are included within the
video:
In fact, you probably had to watch an advertisement before
you can even watch the video! In some cases, you would also encounter another
advertisement about 1/5 through the video; it usually pops up and you must
press “x” in order to get it out of the way.
Many people like or have adapted to the modern music, while
many people would rather stick with the classical older music. Each type of
music has its own unique pros and cons; it is just the matter of preferences.

On the other hand, modern music also has its own style that
is constantly being developed up to date. It seems like modern music is a lot
less depressing compared to the older music. The content of modern music is
usually consisted of happy themes that bring audiences in happy moods. Plenty
of the music is now produced for partying, clubbing or dancing purposes! Another
factor that boasts modern artists’ talents is that they are usually songwriters
as well as composers of their own music! Unlike the old music, where singers
have a “writer”, modern artists write and contribute to the production of their
songs in many creative ways. For example, an old popular song, “My Heart Will
Go On” greatly sang by Celine Dion, was lyrically composed by James Horner! This
is what we call “ghostwriting” in this modern society! Technology also plays a
great contribution to modern music; it developed software in which affects
music in many ways. Many may see this in a negative way, but there are many
positive factors. Software makes music a lot more “professional”, and the
experienced producer sitting behind the soundboard also makes it easy to
differentiate their brand from a more “home-made” type of music coming from
aspiring artists. Software also allows beats to be produced quickly, accurately
and creatively! Due to these advantages, modern music is produced much more
frequently causing a wider variety of music to be heard! This has resulted in the
development of many different genres like: House, Dubstep, and many undefined
genres! I wonder what the future holds for music.
My reasoning mainly
comes from a concern for taste. Older music had so much more authenticity and
value intertwined in the meaningful lyrics. These were lyrics that expressed
our suppression and our true personalities. I find that I am a person who
always looks for the meaning in things, and I can find it most of the time in
older music. However, the new age has come out with a textbook format for songs
- a catchy hook and well sounding lyrics that don't even mean anything most of
the time - and this is something that irritates my mind. I feel that the youth
these days are greatly influenced by the media, and if they are being presented
with songs that don't set a good example for them, what kind of values will our
generation have?
